My work on StarJammers, part of the X-Men famil;y of magazines from Marvel, came about from one of those delightful 'Convention' moments.
I'd been invited to a little comics convention in northern Spain, in Avilles. And as the Spanish are such delightful hosts, especially at comic conventions, I went along equipped with a small art-case, packed with samples of my favourite pieces ( those which would fit! ) and a bunch of new projects - just in case anyone might ne interested.
I was delighted with Avilles, a small enough town to be intimate. And all the comics guests were naturally invited to meet the Mayor! ;)
It was there that I bumped into John Ostrander. Esy to do, as he's a little on the ample side. ;) And his laugh, which I discovered as we chatted and laid plans for world domination, boomed even larger.
So, as we decided that we liked the idea of working together, John managed to get a couple of StarJammer concepts past the sensors at Marvel.
Not exactly 'world domination' stuff or even ground-breaking. But enjoyable to work on, all the same.
The only problem I had, was that, being a complete recluse from the world of American comics for so many years, I didn't know any of the characters or their history. So there had to be a lot of research involved in catching up.
I think I managed to 'catch up'. ;)
